For many horse and/or big-hat aficionados, the first Saturday in May each year is a holiday to be celebrated with minty cocktails and friendly wagers on the equine competitor with the most outrageous name. In honor of the occasion of the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby, we’ll be preparing classic Mint Juleps and listening to novelist C. E. Morgan’s depiction of one Kentucky family’s horse racing dynasty and the fraught pursuit of breeding the next Secretariat, The Sport of Kings.
